I've always been fascinated by history, though the stories of the ancients always held more interest for me that the relatively recent past. However, in the past months I've found my thoughts turning quite often to modern history and to what might be called 'alternative history', since we in this unique fraternity know that 'fiction' is not always what it seems. In times of old, times still more fresh in the memory of civilization, and those times that have never been, there are always small groups of people, catalysts at moments of immense change - warriors, thinkers, scholars, politicians, men and women of action in turbulent times. I begin to wonder if that isn't what we are to be, somehow. Reincarnates have been around for a very long time - possibly forever, certainly longer than there are any records for - but never in the numbers we are now. The Agency recorded a peak in activations only a year ago and that rate doesn't appear to be slowing down. I'm certain I'm not the only one who senses something coming, though even I am at a loss to say what that might be.
For now I shall leave it at that, as I realize that you, dear readers, may not be so interested in my abstract musings. It has been quite some time since I last dabbled with these journals, so it would be advantageous for me to reintroduce myself. I am Professor Jeremy Gates. Please, just call me Jeremy though, there's no reason to stand on formality. I've been living harmoniously for many years now with Adrian Veidt, also sometimes known as Ozymandias, once a masked vigilante. It is, as they say, always an adventure.
